Muamba plays football again

Fabrice Muamba has revealed he played football again just two months after collapsing on the pitch.

The Bolton Wanderers player collapsed with a heart attack during an FA cup match in March against Tottenham.



Now he's revealed that he played football when he went on holiday to Dubai in May.



He said, "I was on holiday and I was staying in a hotel and there were quite a few footballers in the hotel as well.



"The staff usually play against the visitors so I was by the pool and I heard they were playing football.



"Then I went across and saw other footballers playing and I told my friends and Shauna - I told her 'I am sorry but I am going to play football.



"She goes 'are you sure?' and I say 'yes' and I just went in there.



"I just went in through the groove and played for about 20-25 minutes. It was just playing like normal, it was just playing like I was training. It was great, I enjoyed it."

Muamba receives honorary doctorate

Fabrice Muamba admits he is still "far away" from returning to the pitch but remains hopeful he will be able to resume his career with Bolton Wanderers.



The midfielder was at the town's Victoria Hall to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Bolton at its graduation ceremony.



Muamba was presented with the award to honour both him and the doctors who saved his life when he collapsed with a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur in March.



Muamba was rushed to the London Chest Hospital and doctors took 78 minutes to restart his heart, with his eventual recovery described as a miracle.



Speaking at the ceremony, Muamba said: "I'm getting stronger every day. I'm far away from being back on the football pitch.



"I really, really hope, by the grace of God, that I'll be back on the pitch but I'm just grateful to the university for this doctorate and I receive it on behalf of everybody who helped me to survive the cardiac arrest."



Muamba and his family fled war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, seeking asylum in the United Kingdom.



Despite arriving in London aged 11 unable to speak English, he went on to achieve 10 GCSEs and three A levels and joined Arsenal FC's youth academy in 2002 before moving to Birmingham and then Bolton in 2008.

Muamba released from hospital

Bolton have confirmed that Fabrice Muamba has been discharged from the London Chest Hospital.



In an official statement on the club's website, Muamba said: "I am naturally very pleased to be discharged from hospital and would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to every single member of staff at The London Chest Hospital who have played a part in my care.



"Their dedication, professionalism and expertise is simply amazing and I will forever be in their debt. I also wish to say thank you to all the many well-wishers who have sent thousands of messages of support.



"Now I am out of hospital, I am looking forward to continuing my recovery and spending precious time with my family."



Bolton manager Owen Coyle added: "It is absolutely fantastic news that Fabrice has been discharged from hospital and everyone at the club is delighted.



"We would also like to add our thanks to the staff at The London Chest Hospital for their care and treatment of Fabrice, which has been outstanding.



"It is important that Fabrice and his family are now given time and space to be together, and we would ask the media to continue to respect their privacy."

Muamba responding to family members

Bolton have confirmed reports that Fabrice Muamba is able to "recognise family members and respond to questions".



The midfielder remains in a critical condition at The London Chest Hospital, having been admitted after suffering a cardiac arrest during the FA Cup quarter-final between Tottenham and Bolton at White Hart Lane.



It was confirmed on Monday afternoon that he was moving his arms and legs and that his heart was beating without the aid of medication. Later in the day a friend of Muamba's, Curtis Codrington, revealed the 23-year-old was talking.

"Fabrice is speaking and moving," Codrington said. "He has spoken minimal words in French and English."

And although his condition remains serious, Bolton have confirmed he is able to converse with friends and family.

"Fabrice Muamba remains in intensive care at The London Chest Hospital," read a statement from Bolton. "He is continuing to show signs of improvement this evening.



"He is currently able to breathe independently without the aid of a ventilator. He has also been able to recognise family members and respond to questions appropriately.
