Boca wants Riquelme return

New Boca Juniors coach Carlos Bianchi says he will try to convince popular midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme to return.

The mercurial Riquelme left the club five months ago after Boca lost the final of the Copa Libertadores to Brazilian club Corinthians.

Bianchi spoke to celebrating fans at Boca's La Bombonera on Wednesday, two days after the 63-year-old Bianchi was named to replace Julio Falcioni.

This will be Bianchi's third stint coaching Boca. He won the Copa Libertadores three times with Boca, and also won Latin America's top club title with fellow Buenos Aires club Velez Sarsfield.

Riquelme eyes off Boca return

Juan Roman Riquelme says he is open to the idea of rejoining Boca Juniors.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who has made over 200 appearances for the club, cited a loss of desire for his exit back in July, following his side's disappointing defeat to Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores.

"I'm better than last season because I have peace of mind, something that I was missing," Riquelme told Estudio Futbol.

"I want to go to the game on Thursday (against Newell's Old Boys). I've been very clear with the president, the coach and my team-mates.

"If Boca needs me, I will always be available, I will do what they want."

The former Argentina international also spoke positively about his relationship with club president Daniel Angelici.

"I cannot say anything about Angelici. We always tried to overcome a lot of issues," he continued.

"I want to prepare well. In the middle of December I will see what decision I make. Together we'll see if I keep playing for longer or not.

"If I do not play, it's not entirely my decision."
