ICICI Weather Insurance Review
ICICI Lombard is India’s leading private sector insurer. It provides large range of insurance products for Individuals, corporates and families.
ICICI Lombard is also providing the Weather Insurance to the farmers of 14 states.
Recently, ICICI Lombard has said that,
it will provide cover for weather-based crops to farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh
"We have been given the mandate by the respective state governments to provide weather- based crop insurance for Rabi season (2010-11). It will cover 69 districts, 30 loanee districts (farmers who have taken loans) and 39 non-loanee districts," ICICI Lombard General Insurance said in a statement here.
This is really a great news for the farmers who were very uncertain about the weather changes. But now, they can insure their entire crop. The following are the crops in the above districts which will be covered by ICICI Lombard Weather Insurance.
Winter paddy, cotton, wheat, mustard, barley, maize, onion, potato, tomato, lentil, peas, arhar, jowar, fenugreek, coriander, cumin, methi, isabgol and brinjal.
In the year 2009-09 only, it has insured 29 lakh farmers and over 19 lakh acres across 14 states.
This is really a good weather insurance for the farmers. And I think one should go for it.
