How to Apply for Pan Card as NRI?

A PAN (Personal Account Number) is a plastic card which has your name, photograph, date of birth and 10 digit alphanumeric number. It also has the 3D hologram of IT Department of India.
The Definition of Non-Resident Assessee
A citizen of India residing outside India at the time of making application
Not a citizen of India ie foreign citizen
Other than individual (a company, trust, firm, etc) - not a citizen of India - having no office of its own in India.
You will require following things
- Download PAN Card Application Form (Form 49A)
- AO Code:
AO Code is a combination of Area Code, AO Type, Range Code and AO Number.
- Address Proof:
It is not necessary that you MUST require the Indian address. You can choose your abroad residential address also for the communication.
Additional courier charges for PAN card dispatch shall be payable by applicant at the time of making application if the address for communication is a foreign address. Complete address including name of state, province (if applicable) and name of country should be clearly mentioned in the application as part of the address.
If you are applying from abroad than a valid e-mail address is the MUST requirement.
- Photograph:
You should provide your passport size colour photograph.
- Signature:
Application should always be signed by the applicant himself / herself in all cases (for individuals). In case of applicants other than individuals, application should be signed by an authorized signatory on behalf of the applicant (eg director of the company or partner of the firm or trustee of the trust, etc).
