Billionaires are those whose net worth is more than $ 1,00,00,00,000. Yes, That’s 9 Zeros behind 1. And that is Rs.5,000 Crore Net worth in rupees. Bill Gates is world’s richest person having Net Worth of US $ 40 Billion.
Now, just think that, How much Billionaires can really spend from their billions of dollars? Well, Not much. Why? ..Well, because a Billion Dollar is the Valuation of the Assets typically their own stake in their own publically listed companies.
All the Billionaires own a large chunk of Shares in their own publically listed companies and the valuation of these shares is worth of billions and that’s why they are billionaires. Now, What if Bill Gates want to spend $ 40 Billion? Can he really do so?
Well, Technically speaking, He can do so. But in reality, he can’t.
Bill Gates can anytime sell his $ 40 Billion Stake in Microsoft Corporation and cash out those $ 40 Billion from Microsoft. But if he does so, He will loose the management control over the Microsoft Corporation and he couldn’t afford to loose the management control over Microsoft.
This is true for any billionaire around the world. Billionaires can spend the money up to their net worth by selling their own stake in their publically listed businesses. But they won’t do this. because if they do so. They will loose the management control over that Business.
And they can’t afford to loose the management control over their most precious Asset. So How much can billionaires actually spend? Well, they can take out money from their businesses as Bonuses and Dividends. This amount can be in hundreds of millions. But they can’t afford to sell their valuable stake in their own businesses.
