“I work from home, and can do whatever I want and still make money!”

These ads are everywhere. And people fall for them all the time. It’s like dangling a steak in front of a starving lion. If you give them a little steak, they might seem interested if they don’t have to work hard to get it. If you offer them a 24 oz. sirloin and dangle it right in front of their face, of course they’re going to want to snatch it. Unfortunately, the ‘steak’ we have come to know as ‘instant wealth’ and ‘making money doing nothing’ is tainted. These opportunities are often distorted perceptions of what people have done to become wealthy.

Think about it for a minute, if you will. That commercial you saw with all those people telling you how they make millions and don’t work much at all cost money and took time to create. Who do you think did the work? Most of these so-called ‘business opportunities’ are marketing scams or MLM (Multi-level Marketing) schemes. This is where people create a website and sell you their ‘secrets to success’ for however much they feel that it’s worth. If you invest, say, $49.95 to see how they did it, you’ll learn that you will also be selling the ‘secrets to success’ for $49.95. Every time you make a sale, you get a cut of the money and the rest goes to the person that recruited you.

Other programs that don’t work this way generally involve MUCH more actual work than they claim to. You might invest in the opportunity for a home business, spend every second working on it and commit yourself to it only to gain substantial profits in the long run. Understanding the home based business opportunities that are out there is the key to your success in starting a home business of your own. Don’t fall for the tricks, gimmicks, and scams. Be aware that work is called ‘work’ for a reason, and that if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Take pride in whatever you decide to do, and make the most of your home business for the best chances at success. You don’t have to take my advice if you don’t want to, but I urge you to be careful in all your business endeavors. Remember that nothing truly great ever comes free.
