Pearce: Giggs fit for quarter-final

Ryan Giggs will be fit for Team GB's Olympic quarter-final against South Korea on Saturday, Stuart Pearce has confirmed.

Giggs sat out Great Britain 's 1-0 victory over Uruguay on Wednesday afte scoring against the UAE in their group stage match.



Though midfield trio Joe Allen, Tom Cleverley and Aaron Ramsey controlled the tempo against Uruguay, Pearce insists Giggs will come back into contention for a starting spot against South Korea.



"He is certainly fit and available," Pearce said. "We trained this morning, including the players that didn't feature or didn't start.



"Ryan did the training with no problems at all, so he is up for selection again on Saturday, as are all the other players."



Pearce also admitted he has started to look at the London 2012 Games as an opportunity to boost his managerial credentials as Team GB edge closer toward a podium finish.



"At this moment in time as a manager I've won nothing, I feel as though I'm still learning," Pearce said.



"When the dust settles, and you look at what Sir Alex Ferguson has won and what Arsene Wenger has won, and top managers in the world and you look at their CVs, I'm no different to that - I'm desperate to win, even more so for the players than myself.



"I'd say I'm quite unassuming to when it comes to the accolades being thrown out, I'm not interested in that. I'd rather the players step forward and if they can go home with a medal in their pocket I'd be delighted."

Giggs considering coaching role

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has confirmed he will consider a career in coaching when he retires from playing football.



Giggs, 38, will play for United for at least another season after he signed a one-year extension to his contract in February.



The Welshman's former Red Devils team-mate Gary Neville ruled out a career in management on Saturday, but Giggs appears more open to the possibility.



The midfielder will skipper Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics and he sees the experience as an ideal opportunity to build on his growing skill set.



Giggs told the Daily Mirror: 'Coaching is something I'm looking at more and more. In the middle of last season, I completed my UEFA A Licence, which was good. It's a different side of things, completely different to being a player.



"I want to gather as much knowledge as I can and prepare myself as best as I can, if I do want to go into management or coaching.



"The Olympics is a great platform, it's different being involved in tournament football to league football. I ask as many questions as I can at United and I've been the same here with Great Britain."

Giggs gutted by Beckham snub

Ryan Giggs has revealed his disappointment that former Manchester United team-mate David Beckham didn't make the cut for the Great Britain Olympics football squad.



Giggs, 38, was one of three over-age players - the others being Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards - picked by coach Staurt Pearce for his 18-man squad. However, having played with Beckham for ten years at Old Trafford, the Welshman feels sad that his friend was not one of those selected.



"Obviously as a former team-mate and a friend of David I am disappointed for him, but he will take it on the chin and carry on his career," Giggs told BBC One. "It's one of those things, it was not meant to be.



"That's Stuart Pearce's job to pick a team that he thinks will win and that's what he's done. Unfortunately David is not in that 18. I would like to say as a friend I wish he was. But I am sure the lads who are picked will go out and do the best they can."



Giggs has never played in a major championship with Wales and is relishing the chance to be part of Team GB.



"I'm really excited," he added. "Coming to London and feeling the buzz around the place for the Olympics, seeing the signs everywhere. It's a massive event and one I am looking forward to."
