Fiorentina sign Aquilani from Liverpool

Fiorentina signed Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool on Friday with media reports putting the fee at seven million euros (5.45 million pounds).



"Fiorentina announces the acquisition of Borja Valero Iglesias and Gonzalo Javier Rodriguez from Villareal Club and Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool Football Club," the club said on their official website.



Italian media suggested that Liverpool will pay part of Aquilani's salary, which has been put at as much as 1.7 million euros a season.



Aquilani has had a troubled time since signing for Liverpool from AS Roma in 2009, failing to establish himself as a dominant midfield presence in a team that struggled for form.



He has been sent back twice to Italy on loan over the last two years, first to Juventus in 2010 and then to AC Milan at the start of last season.



Despite good performances for both teams, in particular during his time at Juventus, neither club took up the offer to buy him and he returns to Serie A as a member of Vincenzo's Montella's new-look Fiorentina.



The former Roma striker excited Serie A as Catania boss last season and is hoping that Aquilani can help the Tuscan outfit improve on last season where they narrowly avoided relegation.

Agent rules out Aquilani move

Alberto Aquilani’s agent has dismissed reports of a move to Fiorentina as “impossible. He will remain at Liverpool.”



Both the Italian and English media suggested over the weekend that the Viola were making a bid for the €9m-rated midfielder, which could include a swap with Juan Manuel Vargas.



“Let us not open up a soap opera, please,” agent Franco Zavaglia told Radio Sportiva.



“Aquilani is a Liverpool player and he is happy where he is now. We have not received any requests from Daniele Prade, but that was only to be expected, seeing as Aquilani will only leave on a permanent move and at figures Fiorentina cannot afford.



“I would rule out a current return to Italy. At the moment Alberto is relaxed and on Tuesday he’ll attend pre-season training with Liverpool, as planned.”



Aquilani spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus and Milan, but neither club took up its option on the player.

Aquilani set to return to Liverpool

Alberto Aquilani is set to return to Liverpool with the Italian midfielder having received no offers from other clubs, according to his agent.



Aquilani, who played on loan at AC Milan this season, is under contract with Liverpool until June 2014.



Reports in Italy claimed Aquilani would terminate his contract with the Reds outfit in order to make his move to Milan permanent this summer, something which his agent has vehemently denied.



"Almost certainly he will not terminate his contract with Liverpool," Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia said to Sportitalia.



"He could join them (Liverpool) at the beginning of July to start pre-season training with the English club.



"At this time there are no clubs interested in him."



The 27-year-old Aquilani moved to Anfield in 2009 in a £20 million transfer deal from Roma.



He endured a disappointing spell before being loaned to Juventus in the 2010-11 campaign.



Juve opted not to exercise the option to acquire Aquilani's sporting rights for a reported eight million euros last summer and the player joined AC Milan on a one-year loan deal instead.



Aquilani scored one goal in 23 league appearances for the Rossoneri this season.

Aquilani contemplating future - Agent

Alberto Aquilani's future will be determined in the next few days, according to the Liverpool midfielder's agent.



Aquilani, who is under contract with Liverpool until June 2014, spent last season on loan at AC Milan having struggled to settle at Anfield since joining from Roma for £20 million in 2009.



"We had a meeting with English executives but for the time being, nothing has emerged," Aquilani's agent, Franco Zavaglia, told ilsussidiario.net. "We expect a response from Liverpool which should arrive within the week."



Reports in Italy claimed this week Aquilani, 27, could terminate his contract with Liverpool before joining Milan permanently - suggestions which Zavaglia has vehemently denied.



"There is absolutely no possibility that Aquilani can become a free agent in order to then decide what to do," Zavaglia said. "I don't know if he wants to stay at Milan, we shall see. We just have to wait and see what happens and what Liverpool decides."
