Recently, all of you MUST have read and heard about the Swine Flu in News papers & Media. Mumbai & Pune are the main hub of Swine Flu. This Article is not about What is Swine Flu and what its Management is? But this article is all about How Swine Flu has created a great Business Opportunity for Pharma Companies.

Here are the Few Great Business Opportunities that Swine Flu has created for many Pharma Companies -

01) Tamiflu -

Tamiflu is a Brand Name of the Anti-viral molecule Oseltamivir phosphate. The Molecule is patented and a property of Roche Pharmaceutical Company, New Jersy, USA. In year 2006, Roche Pharma had given rights to sell this molecule in India to Cipla – Indian Pharma Company.

But in May 2009, Government of India has banned this drug because of its black market selling and there was no H1N1 (Swine Flu) Virus isolated in the throat swab of several people. 10 Tablet strip of Tamiflu is available at a cost of Rs.1000 and this is the printed price. In reality, the drug is selling in the black market at the rate of Rs.4500 per 10 tablets strip. The dose of this drug is 2 tablets a day for 5 days.

Now the surprising thing is that, India is a Hot climate country so the chances of Viral Flu are very much less likely. Flu is common in cold climate country. Another surprising thing is that, just after the report from Government of India about the Tamiflu that, it is not useful over in India, the epidemic of Swine Flu occurred…!!!

Recently Government of India has purchased 2 Crore (200 Million) Tamiflu from the Pharma Companies and that is worth of Rs,2000 Crore Transaction.

A Logical mind can’t understand all of this….!!!

02) n95 Masks -

Routine Disposable Face mask can cost you Rs. 5 – 20 per mask. while n95 Mask will cost you Rs.100-120 per mask and in cities like Pune & Mumbai, the same n95 mask will cost you Rs.450-500 in the black market.

Many dealers of Pune and Mumbai have sold literally 10,000 masks in 1 week and the value of this transaction is Rs.45 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs.

Now, I am a Doctor. And let me tell you the honest thing about the Value of Facemasks in preventing Flu. The Facemasks are to prevent infection from your body to others and not to protect you from the infection from others. If you wear a facemask, than others will be protected by your infection and not you.

Surgeons wear a Facemask during the Operation in the Operation theatre not to protect themselves from the infection but to protect patient’s surgical wound from the infection of the surgeon. The logic behind any face mask in the world is the same.

But unfortunately, Pharma Companies and Doctors of the top level have done “False Propaganda” of the n95 mask. And right now Indian people believe that, n95 mask will protect them from Swine Flu.But in reality, Doctors & Pharma Companies have done False Propaganda of the n95 mask.

And that’s why the Demand of this Facemask has increased suddenly and thus the black market of this face mask has been created.

The surprising thing is that, if Doctors & Pharmaceutical Companies know that n95 masks can’t protect you from the Swine Flue because the Scientific logic behind wearing a Facemask is different than why they do false Propaganda of the n95 face mask only?

Is there any Malafied Economic Benefit hidden behind it?………Really Don’t know…!!!!

03) Swine Flu Diagnostic Kits -

Swine Flu Diagnostic kits are based on the principle of PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), the same principle that applied in detecting the HIV (AIDS) Virus.

Currently, no Indian company manufacturers the swine flu test kit in the country. US-based Applied Biosystems and Swiss major Roche Diagnostics, two of the world’s largest swine flu kit makers have decided to tap the Indian market.

Right now only at 22  Government recognized places in India have the H1N1 Diagnosis facility and 2 of them are,

01) National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS),

02) Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD)

No other Private Labs can diagnose H1N1 right now in the India. But many private labs have asked for the permission from the Government of India to diagnose the Swine Flu.

This means diagnostic chains such as Dr Lal PathLabs, Super Religare Labs (formerly SRL Ranbaxy), Quest Diagnostics, Metropolis and Dr Dang Labs may soon start buying these kits in bulk, once they get the government approval.

The Indian Government did not give approval to diagnose H1N1 to private labs in the past because of price control and several other good reasons. But now, once these private labs get approval, they will start diagnosing H1N1 and thus commercialization of this sector will happen. Means every cough & cold patient will have to undergone for the Swine Flu diagnosis……. Why?…… Because the Pharma Companies all around the world are manufacturing the Kits and we have to Sell them otherwise How these Companies will make Profit?

Now Read the Statement from Government of India -

“The government said it will soon allow private diagnostic companies to conduct swine flu test as the virus is expected to affect 350 million people in the country over the next couple of years. At present, swine flu tests are conducted at 18 government-notified labs. Early this year, the government had imported 22,000 kits to conduct test. On Monday, the government said it will spend Rs 1.75 crore in buying an additional 27,000 kits.”

04) Ayurvedic & Homeopathic Treatment of Swine Flu -

Now if everybody is making money than Why Ayurvedic & Homeopathic Doctors should lag behind? Many Ayurvedic & Homeopathic Doctors & Professors of the various Universities have claimed that, Swine Flu can be cured by Ayurvedic Treatment.

The oldest mode of medicine -- Ayurveda has a cure for the much talked about swine flu. While there is panic among people when it comes to the tests and medication of the H1N1 virus, the Ayurveda and Homeopathy experts claim to know methods of prevention and cure of the disease.

Here is a Homeopathic treatment of Swine Flu -

“A combination of 6-7 homeopathic medicines should be given according to the symptoms of the patients. These include Aconite Nap 30, Belladona 30, Bryonia Alb, Mercuris Vibre, Gelsinium 30 and Eupaporium Purf. So again Swine Flu is a great Business Opportunity for Ayurvedic & Homeopathic medicine and of course doctors.

Every day literally thousands of people died because of Heart Attack, Diabetes, Accidents, Stroke & Chest Diseases. Now because of the Swine Flu, few hundred people died. Of course, this is a bad thing but why to give so much importance to Swine Flu in media?

Because this is a great Business Opportunity for media channels also. The more they create Fear, the more they become Popular.

Swine Flu has created a Great Business & Money making Opportunity for Doctors, Pharmaceutical companies, Government, Media & Ayurvedic-Homeopathic Field. Businesses have made lots of money out of Swine Flu.
